bulletDescription:

The TN visa, which is similar to an H-1B visa, is available for Canadian and Mexican citizens who are coming to the U.S. to work temporarily in a professional position. Only Canadians or Mexicans may apply for a TN visa. There are more than 60 professions that qualify for a TN visa, among them architects, computer system analysts, engineers, lawyers, management consultants, medical professionals, social workers, and teachers. Generally to obtain a TN visa you will need to have a bachelor’s degree or a licenciatura degree or, in some instances, equivalent experience. To get a TN visa, you need a specific job offer from a qualified employer in the U.S. Processing for Canadians is greatly simplified. It does not require as much paperwork as an H-1B petition involves, making it a very interesting alternative to other temporary work visas. This advantage, however, does not apply to Mexicans seeking a TN visa, who are required to go through an application process similar to applying for an H-1B visa. With TN status, you are allowed to remain in the U.S. for a maximum of 1 year, although you may seek 1-year extensions as long as you maintain TN status.
